Dearest Meg/Lariope---I'm not sure if you remember the pay-it-forward post, but you were the first to sign up for a gift, and I am pleased to have finished it on your birthday! (At least, it's still the 23rd here!) I wish you many happy returns and hope this pleases you!

Title: The Answer of a Reunion
Pairing: Snape/Granger
Rating: Art is G, drabble is R (cursing/past sexual implications)
Warnings/etc: AU, student/teacher (Hermione's age is not specified) -- really rather tame :)
Wordcount: 400; drabble: dialogue only
Notes: I looked up [info]lariopefic's SS/HG prompts for the last exchange and was inspired by the idea of a reunion + morally ambivalent Snape + snark + semi-fluff/happyish endings. Although this barely touches the edges of all; blame the Lemur muse!

“The gates will be open, half past the witching hour. I’ll stand not far past, under the furthest lone tree—”

“You’re going to leave the gates undone?”

“Don’t interrupt me. And yes, I shall. No need for the silly grimace, Granger; I’m not foolish enough to leave them long—which is why you’ll have to hurry… Fifteen minutes should be enough time, unless running is too much of an inconvenience for you.”

“It’s just…”

“Just what? You didn’t expect this so soon? I told you that I’ll not sneak around like Potter with his damn invisibility cloak—”

“That’s not what—”

***

“Snogging in dark corridors and shagging in empty classrooms… Is that all you desire, Hermione? It is, isn’t it? You want an endless series of loathsome trysts, with your very own pet Death Eater!”

“Now wait just a moment! How dare you—no let me finish!—How dare you say such awful things… If anyone’s the pet, it’s me! Don’t shake your head; you know it’s true. Who’s the one that bruises their knees and begs for forgiveness when the other rages over some perceived slight?”

“Perceived? I’d hardly call questioning my loyalty to the Order a delusion of persecution!”

***

“Well, you’re willing to abandon them now...”

“For you. Except it will not be ‘abandoning them’; it will be leaving this whole miserable situation behind! The Dark Lord, Dumbledore, this wretched school—”

“…hardly sounds as though you’re only leaving for me, then.”

“Have you understood nothing? I’ll be waiting for you under the tree! Do you think it for mere amusement that I risk imprisonment in Azkaban? Considering it’s an act of treachery to leave the gates unlocked, alone—and what of running off with a student, hmm? I can fuck whores, Granger, if that’s all I was looking for…”

***

“And if I say I’m not ready?”

“Then I shall warn you of the possibility of awaking tomorrow with no memory of our transgressions...”

“You wouldn’t.”

“Surely you could not blame me. I suppose you expect even more time to wallow in your indecision? Obviously all I’ve done for you means next to nothing. Your claim of love quickly falls short when it comes to the most important matters.”

“Hmph! As if asking for a little time disproves anything! Do you love me? Let’s see who falters now, shall we?”

“If you want the answer, you’ll run through the gate.”

*A nod to the fic by Snapesforte, "Taking Over Me", when it comes to the use of 'pet Death Eater' --- and many thanks to Lina for glancing over this for me!

Bonus points if you can spot the symbolism -snurfles
